Casual Networking Event TONIGHT! News, Jobs and Updates for 4/18/2013

It’s that time.

Casual networking event for professionals in and around the metro Detroit information technology industry tonight!

We’ve got a couple of blog entries to read, some fun in our LinkedIn group, but we all know what we’re here for, so let’s get started…

As always, we kick things off with our next upcoming event.

Dsc03870Tonight.

5:01 pm.

Royal Oak.

Blackfinn.

Back room.

Casual networking social event for professionals in and around the information technology industry in the metro Detroit area.

Details can be found here on our site at https://itinthed.com/event/april-2013-networking/, on our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD, or in our Meetup group at http://meetup.itinthed.com. Details on all of our upcoming events will always hit our site first, so you’ll want to pay attention to our events page at https://itinthed.com/our-events/. Anything late-breaking or last-minute will tend to be posted on our Facebook page (again – http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD) and on our twitter feed at http://www.twitter.com/ITintheD, so you might want to “like” and “follow” us on those platforms, respectively.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

As a random aside…this really is worth seeing, and should be shared far and wide. It’s from last night’s Boston Bruins game, and it’s the closest thing you’ll ever get to hearing nearly 20,000 people screaming “%^$@ YOU!” at the top of their lungs…without really doing that.

Blackfinn was actually the scene of the crime for our first blog entry for you, and it’s a good one to keep in mind – Don’t Be That Guy: Drunk Guy is out at https://itinthed.com/86/drunk-guy/.  There were actually quite a few good stories from that night, but this was the first time for a self-call out.

FlamethrowerWe have a number of entries out there in the “Dating Corollary” category, where we discuss the similarities between dating, networking, job hunting and the hiring process.  Breakup Netiquette is out at https://itinthed.com/3405/the-dating-corollary-breakup-netiquette/, and this is a really good one to keep handy and remember at all times.  How you handle a breakup tends to reflect a lot more on you than it does the other party, so handle yourself well and you’ll find yourself much better served in the long run.

So now let’s hop into our LinkedIn group.

It lives over at http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ITintheDorg-Detroit-Networking-Events-IT-91763, and is a great source of conversations, jobs, and all sorts of things going on in the area.

Here are a few discussions going on:

– Reforms on the H1B process? http://lnkd.in/sAkFC6

– Is Apple on an AppStore crackdown? http://lnkd.in/2ju-_H

– Using your phone’s nav is illegal? http://lnkd.in/Ed4XFg

– Crafting your resume when you had various job duties: http://lnkd.in/bDEZaB

There are also a whole host of jobs you’ll find available from recruiters who participate in our group, as well as come to our events.  You can find those here: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763

Catch you tonight at our event!

Afterwards…hey, you East Siders – like karaoke and drinking?  Wanna win $200?  Check out the Whatcha Got? Karaoke Competition at Sugarbush Tavern in Eastpointe that kicks off tonight at 9pm and gives out cash every two weeks: http://www.yelp.com/events/eastpointe-whatcha-got-karaoke-contest-200-prize-every-two-weeks

Here’s a little end music in appreciation for all this awesome weather we’re having as I write this…

Yeah, I went there.

Wanna make somethin’ of it?

You know where I’ll be tonight…

Regards,

Bob, Dave and Jeff
