Pink Slip Party Next Week, News, Jobs and Updates for 3/6/2013

I’m starting to get the feeling that the three of us should be wearing ringmaster’s outfits from the circus when next Wednesday rolls around.

Based on the email responses we’ve been seeing from all three facets of our group – those looking to hire, those looking to get hired, and those looking to just show up and meet some new people in the industry and area…it’s going to be a fantastic event.  And do remember that – just because this is a Pink Slip Party event doesn’t mean it’s all about just jobs.  People find jobs at our smaller events, and people make great connections at our Pink Slip Party events.  If you’re in or around the metro Detroit information technology industry, this is the event you’ll want to be at for sure.

And yes, we ran into Governor Snyder.  And sure, we’ve got the usual round up of blog entries, our LinkedIn group and other fun stuff, but let’s be realistic.  All eyes are on next week’s Pink Slip Party, so let’s just go ahead and start there…

deathstarNext Wednesday – and we cannot possibly stress that enough, because we know almost all of our events take place on Thursdays but remember this is WEDNESDAY, March 13, 2013 – 3/13/13 – we will be taking over St Andrews Hall downtown for our next, and probably biggest ever, Pink Slip Party event.

5:01pm start time.

The good folks over at Arrow Strategies (http://www.arrowstrategies.com) and Brightwing (http://www.gobrightwing.com) are even taking a few extra steps themselves to make sure that this event goes over the top by sponsoring an open bar to kick off the night right.  And it looks like iTalent (http://italent-llc.com/) is going to bring something to the table as well to make sure you remember the evening.

And of course, we’ve still got a few tricks of our own up our sleeves.

It’s shaping up to be one hell of a night.

We know. We wish we’d look this good in this, too. Trust us.

So do yourself a favor. You can check out the details here on our site at https://itinthed.com/event/pink-slip-party-march-2013/, and you can read the story on CBS Local Detroit’s website about it here: http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2013/02/20/ITintheD-org-is-back-bigger-than-ever/

As always, keep yourself up to speed on all of our events out on our Events page at https://itinthed.com/our-events/

The events page for this has just been updated with everything you’d ever want to know about parking around St Andrews Hall, so if you’re curious, that’s where you go.

Anything late-breaking will likely be posted on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD) and/or our Twitter feed (http://www.twitter.com/ITintheD), so do yourself a favor and make sure you’re connected with us on both platforms by liking our page and following us.  That’s not a shameless, self-serving plug…okay, well, maybe it is a little bit…but if there’s one thing we’ve learned in the years of doing these events, it’s that something will happen that we want people to know about last minute before they arrive, and those two ways are our best way of doing that.

I’ll be back on the air with “Blaine and Allyson” on 96.3 wdvd Monday morning if you’re around, bored, and want to hear me auditioning for my next career in radio for when this IT nonsense finally gets to be too much for me to deal with any more.  Should be around the same bat time (9am-ish), same bat channel, and should also be another great session because I had a lot of fun with them last time.  Really looking forward to being able to get the word out as far and wide as possible so that we can get as many people downtown for this as we can.  If you missed the last time and you’re curious, you can check out the audio herehttps://itinthed.com/4178/audio-from-10152012-96-3-wdvd-back-to-work-broadcast/  Plus, they’re funny and don’t suck as people either, so give ’em a listen.

.facebook_-437169540So what else…

…oh yeah, so we met Governor Snyder.  That was kind of neat.

We’re awfully skeptical about his “nerd” status though.

You can read all about our latest MEDC Shifting Gears adventure and how that encounter with Governor Snyder unfolded by clicking herehttps://itinthed.com/5053/ello-guvnah-pink-slip-party-updates-news-jobs-and-more-for-2282013/

Speaking of MEDC and Shifting Gears…two blog entries bubbled back up that are relevant to our time there.

See, we always do our 10 Commandments of Networking schtick (which, again, if you haven’t read yet, you really, really should: https://itinthed.com/2697/the-new-and-improved-10-commandments-of-networking/), and two topics that are always touched on there have recently bubbled back up.

Time to look at my list again...The first is that karma can be a really funny thing sometimes, and so you should go read My Name Is Earl over at https://itinthed.com/2520/my-name-is-earl/ to find out about my early morning adventure with an angry cop.

Next, as it turns out, we got up at Shifting Gears and started talking almost immediately about how much “elevator pitchessuck and are completely useless…apparently right after someone else (we weren’t in the room, not our fault) had just gotten done working with the class on theirs and stressing how important they are.

Oops.

I know.  We’re stunned they keep inviting us back, too.

The laughter was an easy read, so we knew exactly what the score was.  Good times.  Anyway, Don’t Be That Guy: The Elevator Pitch is over at https://itinthed.com/17/the-elevator-pitch/ if you’re interested.

Now let’s hop over to our LinkedIn grouphttp://www.linkedin.com/groups/ITintheDorg-Detroit-Networking-Events-IT-91763

Conversations?  We’ve got conversations.  Everything from about nine different takes on the Yahoo / telecommuting fiasco, to whether or not people are willing to work downtown with all of the economic and political chaos taking place.

Jobs?  Plenty of jobs.  There are over 80 gigs posted right now over at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763

…and I’m sure we’ll see more and more come in over the course of this next week leading up to the Pink Slip Party.

Which, again, is on next WEDNESDAY.  Not Thursday.  WEDNESDAY.

We’ll see you next Wednesday, folks.  We’ve got some other fun going on for St Patrick’s Day, but we’ll talk about that after we survive this next week.

Regards,

Bob, Dave and Jeff
