Star Wars Night, Comos, Money Magazine and More for 1/3/2013
Happy New Year!
…and holy crap, it’s already Thursday and I totally forgot this was a short week and didn’t even think about doing one of these until five seconds ago.
Not my fault, I’m a victim. At least that’s what The Jerry Springer Show taught me.
So we’ve got an update on Star Wars Night at the Palace for tomorrow night, our casual networking event in two weeks at Como’s in Ferndale, an IT in The D update, some blog entries, oh, and we wound up in CNN’s Money Magazine.
You didn’t think we were completely lazy and not doing anything at all over the break, did you? Silly, silly you.
Let’s get started…
As always, we start with our next scheduled event.
Thursday, January 17th at Como’s in Ferndale. Upstairs. Private room. Good times to be had by all. For a map, details, timing, and all the other usual fun and excitement, the event listing is here: http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/event/january-casual-networking-social-2/ This will be our first casual networking event for metro Detroit information technology professionals in 2013 (whew, typed the right year), and so we’re looking forward to seeing you there!
For those of you coming to Star Wars Night at the Palace tomorrow night, there’s been a slight shift in plans. We’ll be meeting up in the Champion Room (not Club 300 as originally planned), and they’re transitioning us down into a block of seats in the lower bowl. Totally unavoidable, it is what it is…I’ll be following up with those of you who bought tickets (I’m waiting on that list from the Palace staff currently) individually to make sure you’re fully in the loop.
Plans for IT in The D continue to roll forward. We’re doing a little last minute juggling with the speaker and presentation lineup to make sure that we’ve got the right mix and flow for the day, and we should have that published out here on the site this weekend or early next week at the latest. Our window for early bird registration has now closed, and we’re into the General Admission ticket window. Details and ticket purchases can be found here: http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/it-in-the-d/
For those not yet in the know…yes, if you happen to have a copy of the January issue of Money Magazine, there’s a quick feature in there about ITintheD.org on page 20. It’s nothing huge, not some four page spread or anything, but it’s still pretty cool to be getting some recognition from a national publication. However…the title of the article has the word “Hero” in it, and that’s a bit of a stretch. So, please read “Sanity Check: I Am No Hero” over at http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/4797/sanity-check-i-am-no-hero/, where you can also find a scan of the article if you’re interested.
A couple of other blog entries went live, including Don’t Be That Guy: The Lobotomizer over at http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/4814/the-lobotomizer/ which discusses some recent fun and excitement between HP and GM, the rippling undercurrent that has an effect on networking, and the entire concept of Non Compete Agreements in the IT industry.
2012: The Steep Ride Up went live at http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/4802/2012-the-steep-ride-up/, which has some “end of the year” thoughts, as well as a look forward into 2013, so it’s definitely worth a read.
An oldie but goodie bubbled up over at http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/617/greedy-networking-guy/ with Greedy Networking Guy. Who we all know. And hate.
And yep, there’s a whole bunch of discussions going on and jobs posted in our LinkedIn group over at http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ITintheDorg-Detroit-Networking-Events-IT-91763 …but in the interest of saving time to get this out, if you’re interested, our group is at http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ITintheDorg-Detroit-Networking-Events-IT-91763 and the job discussions from recruiters in our group are at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763
