The End Of The World Recap, Updates and News for 12/20/2012

Well, here we go.

Time to find out if those conspiracy nutbags on the History Channel actually have something right for once.

The good news?  If they are, at least we won’t be around to hear them bragging about it.  Because that would be a fate none of us deserve.

And no…no political grandstanding in this issue.  No mention of tragedies, no position taking on guns or anything like that.  This isn’t the forum for it.

This is, however, the forum to talk about our insanely successful event last week, a few shameless plug shout outs that we wanted to make as a result of that night, some old blog entries that bubbled back up to the surface, and of course our upcoming events, as well as discussions and jobs on LinkedIn.

So let’s get started…

There’s still time!

As always, we start with our upcoming events.

On Friday, January 4th it’s Star Wars night at the Palace of Auburn Hills.  Looks like a few tickets are still available, and hey – $30, free food and soft drinks, cash bar…and Star Wars.  What more do you want?

This isn’t a “ITinTheD.org” event, it’s not a casual networking event…it’s just there.

It’s just something that we’re helping put together because it’s going to be a fun time.

Details on the events page: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/star-wars-night-at-the-palace/

Our first “real” event of the year will be a casual networking event for metro Detroit information technology professionals on Thursday, January 17th at Como’s in Ferndale.  5:01pm start time.  Details available here on the site: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/january-casual-networking-social-2/

Quick reminder: IT in the D early bird registration gets killed at the end of the year.  If you want in, now’s the time: http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/

Our recap from last Thursday’s event can be found at http://www.ITinTheD.com/4740/great-event-last-night-thank-you-everyone/

A few folks went over the top and deserved some shameless plugging, and so we did.  Read about:

iTalent: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4761/shameless-plug-italent/

…and our honorable mentions: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4779/shameless-plug-honorable-mentions/

The IT in the D twitter egg is gone, and the contest winner was announced here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4747/the-it-in-the-d-egg-is-gone/

prostituteOne of my favorite old entries, The LinkedIn Prostitution Ring, bubbled back up over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/1011/the-linkedin-prostitution-ring/.  Why is it one of my favorites?  Well, because every time the police somewhere in metro Detroit bust a prostitution ring, that article suddenly starts getting a lot of search engine traffic.  Good times.

The Dating Corollary: I Can Change! (and other lies) came back up at http://www.ITinTheD.com/3409/the-dating-corollary-i-can-change-and-other-lies/, and is a good examination of why counter offers are a bad idea, and what you need to know about staying true to yourself.

Over in our LinkedIn group, you’ll find some good topics of discussion going on.  As always, that sits out at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=91763

And yep, there are jobs posted there.  There’s everything from recruiter jobs to DBAs to every flavor of developer being hunted you can imagine…so get over to the group and check them out at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763

We’re not doing one of these updates next week…it’s the end of the year, and there’s too much going  on already, so you’ll just have to make do without us.  Well, unless something really big happens.  Anything’s possible.

So have a safe and happy next couple of weeks.  Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, [adjective] [your holiday here]!, etc.

We’ll see you in 2013.

histchanguyUnless…

…of course…

…you know…

…that guy is right.

Bob, Dave and Jeff
