IT in the D, LinkedIn, Jobs, Updates and More for 11/28/2012

All nice and recovered from your tryptophan coma, I hope?

Made it through Black Friday without killing anyone?

Covertly finished up all of your shopping on Cyber Monday while at the office?

Perfect, then let’s talk about all of the fun and excitement around here.

LinkedIn added a new layer of “suck”, a couple blog entries went live, you probably missed last week’s Pre-Thanksgiving update, IT in the D continues to roll forward, and oh so much more.

So let’s go ahead and get started…

Now, we always start with our next upcoming event…and we’ll get to that in a moment, I promise.  There’s a topic relating to events that bears mentioning first, though.

See, all of our mentions of events have always included the links into LinkedIn for the event listing.  Why?  Because you’re probably one of those professionals who use LinkedIn, and LinkedIn is an easy way to communicate and pay attention to our events.

Not any more.

Hop on over to “LinkedIn Sucks, Chapter 12” at http://www.ITinTheD.com/4563/linkedin-sucks-chapter-12/ and find out why.

Now, as to our upcoming events…we’ve actually got quite a few things going on.

Justice League…yeah, you know who you are.  Don’t forget about tonight, be there by 6:30 at the latest.

An anniversary of sorts came upon us a couple weekends ago. It was five years ago that we decided that ITintheD.com should be more than just beer and complaining about our jobs. You can read about that here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4527/five-years-ago/

…and then, if you’re so inclined, you can come join us next week on Thursday, December 6th for…well, a “non-event”. It’s not a casual networking event, per se. Bob, Jeff and I just decided that we’d return to the scene of the crime, and so we’re going to meet up at WAB for a few drinks to chill and reminisce. If you want to join us, you’re more than welcome to do so. Details are on our site: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/dec-2007-2012/ …but, of course, not on LinkedIn.

It won’t be nearly this cool.

But don’t let that distract you from our “real” event this month, which is our annual year end gathering. It’s at Rochester Mills in Rochester Hills, and takes place on Thursday, December 13th. Yes, we are doing the “Support The Troops” thing again this year. Yes, the same things are on “the list” for this year. Yes, the same FAQs apply. Yes, at least one of the people that we shipped stuff too last year will be in attendance, and that’s a very damned cool thing. Details are here on the site: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/december-2012/ …but again, not on LinkedIn.

The Frequently Asked Questions from last year’s Support The Troops event have been updated and revised for this year’s efforts, and you can read those over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/4556/dec-13-2012-faqs/

Yes, we have profiles like we did last year.  Yes, we’ll be getting those out and about in the week leading up to the event like we did last year as well.

This really is something that we take quite seriously.  Actually, pretty much everything about that night we take quite seriously.  We’re very serious about wanting as many of you to come out as is humanly possible – it’s our year-end event, and it’s nice to see everyone’s face at the end of the year to chill a bit, reflect, reminisce and have a few laughs.  The Support The Troops piece is something that we’re very proud of having been a part of last year, and we’re very much looking forward to a repeat of that success this time around as well.

Looking forward to seeing you there, and don’t forget to read those Frequently Asked Questions: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4556/dec-13-2012-faqs/

I really can’t blame you if you missed last week’s updates.  Hell, I was basically already checked out and in “long weekend” mode while I was writing them, so I can’t imagine you were any more eager to read them.  If you’d like to catch up, they’re over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/4552/the-pre-thanksgiving-2012-update/

Video Resume Guy is live over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/198/video-resume-guy/

Now…on to IT in the D.

Our Call for Speakers will close this Sunday.  We were going to do so on Friday, but then figured we’d let it ride through the weekend because, well, someone asked us to.  So you basically have until Sunday night to get your info into us if you’re interested…but be warned, we’re already starting to bulge at the seams with solid content, speakers and presentations…so bring your “A” game if you’re coming to play: http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/it-in-the-d-call-for-speakers/  We’ll be touching base with the speakers who have submitted next week.

Interested in volunteering?  Hit http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/it-in-the-d-call-for-volunteers/ and let us know.

The Early Bird registration is nearly gone as well.  If you’re interested in tickets, make sure you get over to http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/it-in-the-d-tickets-and-sponsorships/ before they’re history.

We’ve created a separate Facebook page for IT in the D over at http://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD, mostly to keep some of the clutter that will inevitably be evolving as we move closer from hitting our ITintheD.com Facebook page over at http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD

Since we haven’t completely abandoned LinkedIn (yet…), there are some great conversations going on in there at http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ITintheDorg-Detroit-Networking-Events-IT-91763, as well as jobs being posted by the recruiters engaged in our events and group over at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763.  Hop on in.

I think that’ll wrap things up for this time around.

So…last minute reminders:

Justice League.  Tonight.  By 6:30.  Be there.

Next Thursday at WAB, and the Thursday after that for our year end event at Rochester Mills.  Details her: http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/

Regards,

Bob, Dave and Jeff
