The Pre-Thanksgiving 2012 Update

Great event last week, on a number of levels.

We’ve got a couple of things going on in December, and hope you can join us.

The big news though, of course, is that Turkey Day is nearly upon us.

Which means that it’s time for the annual tradition of committing several of the Seven Deadly Sins in the same day…

Gluttony: Because there is no such thing as “too much pumpkin pie and Cool Whip”.

Sloth: Couch.  ‘Nuff said.

Wrath: Who are the Lions losing to this year?

There might be a few others hit along the way.  If you’ve always dreamed of getting freaky on the coat pile in the spare bedroom, we’re not here to judge.

Anyway, in case you missed it, we had a really, really great event last week at the BlackFinn.  Not just because a lot of people showed up.  Not just because some paperwork got signed.  Not just…

…you know what?  Go read the recap here:

An anniversary of sorts came upon us over the weekend.  It was five years ago that we decided that should be more than just beer and complaining about our jobs.  You can read about that here:

…and then, if you’re so inclined, you can come join us on Thursday, December 6th for…well, a “non-event”.  It’s not a casual networking event, per se.  Bob, Jeff and I just decided that we’d return to the scene of the crime, and so we’re going to meet up at WAB for a few drinks to chill and reminisce.  If you want to join us, you’re more than welcome to do so.  Details are on our site: or over on LinkedIn:

But don’t let that distract you from our “real” event this month, which is our annual year end gathering.  It’s at Rochester Mills in Rochester Hills, and takes place on Thursday, December 13th.  Yes, we are doing the “Support The Troops” thing again this year.  Yes, the same things are on “the list” for this year.  Yes, the same FAQs apply.  Yes, at least one of the people that we shipped stuff too last year will be in attendance, and that’s a very damned cool thing.  Details are here on the site: or on LinkedIn:

We continue to crack ourselves up on our Facebook page over at, and at the end of the day, cracking ourselves up is the important part.

Had a couple of good blog entries show up.

Our early Pink Slip Party events resulted in “I can’t make it to the event, but can you forward my resume” Guy going live over here.

Our most recent Pink Slip Party event triggered Don’t Be That Guy: Premature Ejection Guy over at

In case you’re a slacker and haven’t been to our site in the last week, it’s got a new look and feel.  We’re still kicking the tires and tweaking things, but by all means stop by and then tell Jeff what you hate about it.  Or if you’re feeling sappy I guess you can tell him what you like about it, too.  If, you know, you have to.

IT in the D continues to move along nicely. We’re down to our last few Early Bird tickets –, and we’re getting close to shutting down our Call For Speakers –, so if you have an interest in either…now’s the time.

Hey Justice League – yeah, you know who you are – don’t forget about next Wednesday the 28th.

Over on LinkedIn – we’ve got a couple of good conversations taking place:

– Part 2 (because Russ can’t be bothered to scroll) of why the Michigan Talent Bank website sucks:

– Careerbuilder or Monster?  Personally, I’m looking for “none of the above”:

– Cisco had a $100 million “whoops”.  I aspire to be able to say that some day:

– Facebook launched their jobs app, and I still think that’s a horrible idea:

…and there’s more, along with jobs being posted over at

And on that note, I think we’ll close out this week’s note.  Hope to see you at our upcoming events – and have a great Thanksgiving, everyone.
