News, Jobs, Updates and More for 9/26/2012

It’s almost October?

Once upon a time, I laughed when my grandparents told me that time went faster as you get older.

I’m not laughing any more.

But let’s put that aside for a moment.  We had a great event last week, we’ve got a trip back to Tipsy McStaggers happening in a few weeks for our next event, we’ve got a few blog entries out here for you to check out, some fun in our LinkedIn group, more giggles on our Facebook page, and all sorts of whacky mayhem along the way.

So let’s start talking details…

Our next casual networking event for information technology professionals here in metro Detroit will be on Thursday, October 18th, and it will take place at Tipsy McStaggers in Warren.

That’s right, we’re going back to Tipsy McStaggers.  Why?  Because I can’t stop laughing about the name, and because we had a solid event there earlier this year, that’s why.

5:01pm start time.  Decent little place, locally owned and operated, and it’s good to get back there.

Details are available on our site: or on LinkedIn, Facebook (, Meetup (, or any of our other “presence” pages or event listings around the web.  As we get closer to the event, I’ll probably reference this entry – from the day of our event last year, since there’s a map of the area, additional parking available, etc.

But mark your calendars accordingly.  It’s going to be a good time.

You know what else is going to be a good time?  The Great Halloween Pub Crawl of 2012.  Remember how I mentioned that I’m going to be doing about one of those per month?  Well, here’s the one for October – – and if at all humanly possible, you’re going to want to clear your calendar for Saturday, October 27th starting at 8pm.  It’s gonna be a blast.

Speaking of good times, we had some of those last week over at the BlackFinn in Royal Oak.  There’s a recap and a few photos out at if you missed it.

A few blog entries that you may have missed along the way are live as well.

Creepy Guy out at is a blast from the past, and I’m pleased to say that I think the word’s gotten out a bit on this front, because we haven’t had to deal with one in a while…but it’s still a good read.

After our second Pink Slip Party, I was a little cranky on a few fronts…and we all know that Cranky Dave likes to vent, so give You Can’t Always Get What You Want a read out at

Something new went live as well, and you know how we’re always telling you “Don’t Be That Guy“?  Well, now we’re telling you Don’t Be That Fly, and you can find out what we mean by that over here:

Don’t miss the upcoming Wordcamp Detroit 2012 on October 6th over at the Madison building downtown.  Details and tickets are available here – – for this must-attend event for WordPress users and developers.

Now let’s hop into the goings-on in our LinkedIn group over at

What are the five hottest trends in IT right now?

How about 23 certifications that mean higher pay?

Would you let your car get software updates over your home network and the open internet?

Is 90 days out of work “too long” to still have “Current” listed on your resume?

Hey look!  People really do get hired from our events!

Brandy’s going to go after Monster for stealing her article:

…and of course, there’s always more going on in there, so hop on over to and dive in, already.

Looking for a job?  Just wondering what’s out there at the moment?  Oh, do we have stuff for you to be looking at in the Career Discussions area of our LinkedIn group out at  Stuff like:
