Twitter versus Facebook

So I think I finally figured Twitter out (yea, I know). It’s not like I over-use it now, but the sky has cleared and I think I finally “get it”.

With that said, it is absolutely amazing to me how different the cultures the two platforms are to the user-base. Literally night and day.

So this bar conversation I had this weekend, I will transcribe onto print for your reading enjoyment. With that said, here I go…

Friending/Following

Facebook: “Why are you friending me? We haven’t spoken since high school. What a loser!”

Twitter: “Follow me! I don’t care who you are! Weeeeee!”

Unfriend/Un-follow

Facebook: “I HATE YOU! I WILL TALK SHIT ABOUT YOU TO ANYONE THAT WILL LISTEN. I MIGHT EVEN LOSE SLEEP OVER THIS. YOU ARE A PIECE OF GARBAGE, GO TO HELL!”

Twitter: “I really haven’t noticed [shrug]”

Posting 10 times a day

Facebook: “What a complete annoying loser ! I swear to God I hate you and if I see you, I will punch your children in the stomach.”

Twitter:  “So-and-so posts a lot, but it’s fun to read!”

Posting a random thought (Ex. I’m eating green beans!)

Facebook: “Ugh! Like I care! What a looooser!”

Twitter: “Oh, a fellow foodie! Yay!”

Posting about work

Facebook: “I could care less about your stupid-weiner company and your stupid-weiner products!”

Twitter: “Intriguing! I would like to learn more!”

Layout changes

Facebook: “Ugh! Facebook changed again! I hate this! It looks sooo stupid! I hate you Zuckerberg!!!1!”

Twitter: “It hasn’t changed in years, and if it did, I would use Tweetdeck or something else…”

Stay whiny, my friends

In conclusion, do you see a pattern? Facebook breeds whiney-ness within us all, and I have no idea why? The entire platform’s impact on our real life is absolutely perplexing to me. For people to take things so seriously, to whining about a free service, I really will never understand…

…and that’s all for this time. Check out our other Don’t Be That Guy entries or something else, and we look forward to seeing you at future events.
