Is It Really April Already? News, Jobs, Updates and More for 4/4/2012

We’re just two weeks away from our next event at Tipsy McStaggers.

Seriously, I can’t stop loving the name of that place.

We’ve also got some great discussions going on in our LinkedIn group.

There are, as always, jobs to be found in there as well.

Speaking of which, we got news of another hire from one of our events, into one of those very jobs.

And we’ve got those events booked out through September now, including our next Pink Slip Party

But…you know the rules.  First thing’s first…our next upcoming event.

Thursday, April 19th.

Tipsy McStaggers.

5:01pm start time, as always.

We look forward to seeing you there.  You can find details:

On our site: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/april-casual-networking-social/

On LinkedIn: http://linkd.in/A0x8N0

And, of course, the usual assorted places around the internet like Meetup (http://meetup.ITinTheD.org/) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD).

While you’re at it, you might want to go ahead and mark down the rest of our upcoming events, which are always out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/

I got a really cool email.  A note who came to one of our events for the very first time in February, and started a new job on Monday as a result.  Check out http://www.ITinTheD.com/3318/dont-stop-believing/ for some lessons learned, and just to read a cool note about success from one of our events.  If nothing else, it just hammers home something we’ve been trying to make sure people understand – people still find jobs at our casual networking events, just like there’s some great networking that takes place at our Pink Slip Parties.  Don’t think you have to wait for one or the other to meet your needs, whatever they may be.  The whole point of building up a network is that it’s there for you when you need it, regardless of why you need it…but it has to be in place first.

So that brings us to our LinkedIn group out at http://www.linkedin.com/groups/ITintheDorg-Detroit-Networking-Events-IT-91763

Right now, there are conversations going on about your LinkedIn profile picture…and what it should and should not have in it or look like.  The “objective” section on resumes.  Career lessons from Han Solo (no, you really can’t get away from Star Wars with this group…).  All sorts of other fun stuff that you should be adding your two cents in on.

And, of course, jobs.  If you’re in the market or thinking about looking, there are quite a few sitting out at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763

What’s out there currently?  Here’s a sampling:
