Live Broadcast Tonight, Podcaster Meetup Thursday Night, Comic Expo Saturday, Blogs and More for 8/1/2016

Episode 156 of the IT in the D podcast is tonight, live from the Podcast Detroit studios.  We’ve also got our metro Detroit podcaster meetup taking place this Thursday over at Activ8 gaming, a whole bunch of blog entries for you and more…

10312420_642042705938239_4331649184734952962_nOur next casual networking event for metro Detroit information technology professionals takes place on Thursday, August 18th over at the familiar stomping grounds of the back room of Blackfinn in Royal Oak.

It’s been a little bit since we’ve been there, so we’re looking forward to getting back to our home base and seeing everyone for a great night.

Details for that event…and all of the others we do…can be found here on the site –, on our Facebook page –, or in our Meetup group –

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

13592157_1153711898003908_4518594599642947725_nIf you can’t want that long to see us, and you happen to run a podcast, want to start a podcast, or want to chat with folks who do, then this Thursday, August 4th, is for you.

Our first metro Detroit Podcaster meetup went really well, and we’re expecting an even better event this time around.  We’ll be at Activ8 Gaming in Ferndale, and rumor has it that there’s going to be beer from Falling Down Beer Company, booze from Valentine Distilling, and even perhaps a party bus available to shuttle people between Activ8 and the studios for those who want to check things out.  Same three places to check out the details –, on our Facebook page –, or in our Meetup group –

And then if you really haven’t had enough of us, you can catch us on Saturday at the Michigan Comic Book Expo at the Yack Arena in Wyandotte.  We’ll be there all day with the Podcast Detroit crew doing live broadcasts, having all sorts of fun, and probably wind up doing live commentary during the wrestling event that night.  Details on that can be found at

ITintheDnewspaper08012016Of course you’ll hear about those two events and more during our live podcast tonight.

Episode 156 brings you Michelle from Comcast, in to chat about the latest and greatest they’ve got going on.  We just went downtown last week for their Olympics coverage preview event, and they’ve definitely got some awesome stuff on tap for those who are looking to overdose on events.  We’ve also got repeat guest Russ Dotson coming in, to chat about recruiting, the tech scene in the area, and his new job at Gestamp and what that company has to offer.

PD_mic_Twitter_500x500…as always, you should listen live to hear it all…and as we keep telling you, you’d do well to grab the Podcast Detroit app for Android or iOS and listen that way.  You can find those apps here:  The app was just recently updated to make finding out information about new shows, as well as catching show archives, a lot easier.

The mics go live starting at 9pm, and we hope you join us.

You can also catch any of our episodes you may have missed over at, including last week’s over at

On the blogs front…

One of my personal favorites of all the blogs I’ve written is still way too accurate – The Pufferfish Effect can be found at

Why do we build relationships with people and not companies?  More Human Than Human explains it all:

We don’t only call out people…sometimes companies have it coming, too.  Like the ones who say there’s no IT talent in metro Detroit

Serial networking is a stupid idea:

So is Salmon Style networking:
