Tonight: Conventions, Comics, Controversy, Event Next Week and More for 2/9/2015

Our casual networking event for February is next Thursday, but we’ve got plenty to keep you busy until then.

We’ve got our live broadcast tonight that should be a really, really fun one full of great conversations given the guests and topics, which dovetails nicely with one of the blog entries that we’ve got for you to read, there are conversations going on in our LinkedIn group, memes and other assorted fun on our Facebook page including the ability to listen to our podcast archives, we’re gearing up for a Pink Slip Party next month which means it’s time for us to start talking about sponsors for it,  and all sorts of other fun.

So let’s get to some details…

IMG_20141016_175910_019Our next casual networking event of 2015 will take place next Thursday, February 19th.

We’re continuing the year at our home base, the back room of the Blackfinn in Royal Oak.

EventNewspaper_Feb1920155pm start time, no cover charge to get in, no sales pitches, no agendas, no nonsense.  Just good, solid opportunities to get to know some of the best and brightest folks in the metro Detroit information technology community.  Looking forward to seeing you there.

Details can be found here on the site – https://itinthed.com/meet/, on our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD, or in our Meetup group – http://www.meetup.com/ITintheD/

We’re working on setting up the secondary events that we kicked off the year wanting to do, and those will spin up in April after we get through March with our Pink Slip Party event.  Speaking of which, we only allow for a limited number of sponsors at those events to have a table and really have a “presence”. These events have seen over 1,000 people show up at them, all focused in the metro Detroit information technology industry, so there really isn’t a better place for you and your company to be.  Check out our Sponsors page at https://itinthed.com/sponsors/ for more information and then drop us a note.

ITintheDnewspaper02092015d2I’m sure we’ll talk about that during tonight’s show at some point amidst the fun and excitement that we’ve got on deck.  Tonight we’re joined by the folks running Penguicon to talk about their very cool event taking place in April of this year.

We’re also being joined by Kelly O’Hara of Bebop Art and Kasey Pierce of Kosmic Kasey to talk about everything they’ve got going gone, as well as the perspectives of being women in the art world, going to conventions, and just a whole lot of stuff that we’re really looking forward to engaging with them on in tonight’s conversations.

10968573_518449208297590_4248366250436215772_nWe’ll also be doing a giveaway with the good folks of Detroit Beer Press tonight, so you’ll definitely want to be listening live.  Because you like beer, right? You like food, right?  Of course you do.

feel1Our guests tonight tie nicely in with one of our recent blog entries, too.  A few weeks back, an entry went out about what happened when I took my kids to a comic book shop.  If you’re a regular listener to our show, then you already know that whacky mayhem ensued and people lost their minds.  As a result, a follow up has been posted out at Lessons Learned from the Comic Book Shop Trip.  You should check it out at https://itinthed.com/16447/lessons-learned-from-the-comic-book-shop-trip/

We’ve also got Distracted Guy, Doesn’t Know How to Say No Guy, and a whole host of other entries out there for you at https://itinthed.com/read/

And hey, did you know that if you post a job on our site over at https://itinthed.com/work/, it gets blasted out to our 13,000+ twitter followers as well as being exposed here on the website to all of our visitors?  You should probably check that out.

All of our blog entries are in “Read”: https://itinthed.com/read/

Information about our events are in “Meet”: https://itinthed.com/meet/

Info about our live broadcasts are in “Listen”: https://itinthed.com/listen/

That’s all for this time.  Don’t forget to listen live tonight from 9pm until 11pm for episode 78, and we’ll see you next week at Blackfinn!
