Important Note About IT in the D Live Show Tonight, Jobs and Updates for 8/5/2013

IT in the D returns with a live broadcast tonight!

And just in time, too, because oh, do we have some ranting to do.  This ought to be a fun show.

However, if you want to listen live through the Tune In Radio app for your smartphone or tablet, you must take one very important step.

We’ve got a few blog entries for you, we’re a week and a half away from our event in Ann Arbor, some Facebook fun, and more.

So let’s get started…

conorAs always, we start with the details on our next in-person event.

Our debut in Ann Arbor.

Conor O’Neill’s.

Thursday, August 15th.

5:01pm start time.

Wolverine Technical Staffing is laying out some food, and we’ve had a couple of companies ask about showing up to pick up a round or two of drinks…so all of the stars are certainly aligning to make this a good first time event for us in Ann Arbor.

For full details like the address, you can hit up our events page here on the site – http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/, our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ITintheD, or our Meetup group at http://meetup.ITinTheD.org.

We’ve got plenty to keep you entertained until the 15th though.

mcdonaldsIT in the D returns live in-studio tonight with a new show, great guests, and a whole lot of built up ranting that we’ve been storing up for the last two weeks.

Our in-studio guests tonight will be the folks bringing the OpenCo conference / event to Detroit, and Mark DiCarlo from Wolverine Technical Staffing.

Now, as mentioned up in the intro, if you’re listening to us through the TuneIn Radio app for your smartphone or tablet, there is a very, VERY critical thing you have to do, and that’s update the feed so that you can actually hear us.

If you go to the website and follow the links there, you’re fine.

But if you’re only playing in the TuneIn Radio app, you must take the following steps:

Within the TuneIn app, search for:

RawRadioX

…no spaces, no anything.  You might (depending on when you read this, and what stage the cleanup is in) see two results come back to you.  One has spaces in the name (Raw Radio X) and is the old feed you should not be attempting to use, and the other will not have spaces (RawRadioX) and that’s the one you’re looking for.  Depending on how far along the process is, you may or may not see the “RRX” logo on the one without spaces…but trust us, the one without spaces is the one you want.

Sorry for the chaos, but it’s a natural ripple effect of the chaos that took place that necessitated extensive server upgrades…which apparently also resulted in a new stream having to be created.  We all know technology…sometimes you have to do things that aren’t necessarily convenient for the end users in order to make things actually work.

So update your favorites list if you added it in, and you should be okay.

.facebook_-117262309So take that very important step, and you won’t miss a moment of what’s promising to be a great show.

Want to make sure it’s working?  A great way to do that would be to check out the shows on just before us.  There are some great shows with great guests hitting the air ahead of us tonight, so test it out by tuning in starting at 5pm to hear about the band “Dead in 5” that’s tearing up the music scene, and then stay for the always provocative and hilarious “The Corner with K-Hubb” show at 7 leading right into us going live at 9pm.

To keep up with what we have going on with IT in the D, make sure you’ve liked our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD, and follow us on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/ITinTheD.  That twitter profile is an alternate “voice” for us during the show, and a good way to interact with us.

We’re also trying to make it as easy as possible for you to catch up with past episodes and our post-broadcast archives.

Naturally, we always have them here on our site at http://www.ITinTheD.com/listen/.

Listeners in all but 4 states. Crazy. We think Kansas banned us because we talked about evolution in the first episode…

However, you can also find them at:

Stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/ITintheD/it-in-the-d

RSS: http://www.ITinTheD.com/feed/podcast/

iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/ITinTheD.org/id665504867

…and we’re working on others as well.

Why?

Because we want you to listen however you want to listen to us.  Naturally, we’d love to have you listen live on Monday nights, but we’re also realistic and know that isn’t practical for everyone.

But listening live on Monday nights would still be awesome if you can.  Just sayin’.

So that’s our next casual networking event for professionals in and around the metro Detroit information technology industry and the latest on IT in the D.

jesshoodI recently had a really important lesson hammered back into my head, and I’m still dealing with the fallout from the experience.  Read Guilt by Association: Never Invite the Vampire In over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/5734/guilt-by-association/ to learn how important it is that you pay attention to who you connect with, who you’re friends with, and why you need to be think about them in the context of their reflection on you.

Don’t Be That Guy: The Unprepared Graduate is over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/1784/the-unprepared-graduate/ for those of you either just out of school, or getting ready to wrap up your final year. It’s never too early to start thinking about networking and getting ready for your career.

chuck-woolery1Read any of our Dating Corollary series?  You should.  The Dating Corollary is a series of articles we have out here that help you understand the similarities between networking, job hunting, dating and relationships.  It’s Not You, It’s Me (hint: it’s you) is over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/3671/the-dating-corollary-its-not-you-its-me-hint-its-you/, and is a good read about a real life chain of conversations with several recruiters about one particular candidate, and how the job seeker’s actions came dangerously close to getting him blacklisted from a number of companies in the area.

Don’t Be That Guy: Creepy Guy is yet another (unfortunately) true series of events that took place, and lays out what is, and is not, acceptable behavior…so I’d check it out: http://www.ITinTheD.com/93/creepy-guy/

One last time for emphasis on the TuneIn App for those who listen that way:

Or just hit the RawRadioX.com website and follow the links there.  Everything there has been refreshed and updated, so you’re good that way as well.

Hope you join us tonight to listen live, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone on the 15th at Conor O’Neill’s!

Bob, Dave and Jeff
