Feeling Lucky? Casual Networking Event for Metro Detroit IT Professionals TONIGHT! News, Jobs and Updates for 5/16/2013
Ha ha…”feeling Lucky”…and our event is at Lucky Strike…I crack me up.
I know, nobody else is laughing…don’t care, never do. That’s part of my “charm”.
Anyway, we’ve got a whole bunch of stuff to get out there to you, and then, of course, we have our casual networking event for professionals in and around the metro Detroit Information Technology industry tonight over at Lucky Strike in the Fountainwalk area of Novi. We’ve got blog entries. We’ve got all kinds of fun in our LinkedIn group like their new privacy policies that you’re going to want to read, and oh so much more.
So, here we go…
Lucky Strike (or just “Lucky’s”, as some call it) in Fountainwalk.
5:01pm start time, just like always.
Everything you need to know is published out on the event page: http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/event/may-casual-networking-social-2013/
Go forth, read, and we’ll see you there tonight.
Details on all of our upcoming events will always hit our site first, so you’ll want to pay attention to our events page at http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/our-events/.
Anything late-breaking or last-minute will tend to be posted on our Facebook page (again – http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD) and on our twitter feed at http://www.twitter.com/ITintheD, so you might want to “like” and “follow” us on those platforms, respectively.
We’ve got June and July events scheduled and ready to go as well. You can find those here: http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/our-events/ or at the other locations as well.
We’re still having fun on our Facebook page…we always do. So go check it out: http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD
Social Media Day 2013 has been announced, and tickets are free. Yes, we’re going. Yes, you should probably check it out, too. It’s a good time, a great way to meet people, and well…odds are good there will be significant levels of alcohol consumed afterwards. Which you probably knew as soon as I said “we’re going”. Check it out: http://lnkd.in/aQqS7y
This weekend…people, it’s Geekapalooza 2013. Motor City Comic Con returns. Also in Novi. Bob and I will be there Saturday and Sunday hanging out with wrestlers. Yes, wrestlers. It’s a long story, I’ll tell you over a beer sometime, but the short version is “It’s all Bob’s fault”. The good and fun guys from XICW, Xtreme (don’t judge their spelling…they’re wrestlers, they’ll kick your ass) Intense Championship Wrestling, the oldest running professional wrestling promotion in Detroit, will be running shows on Saturday and Sunday. Plenty of guys and stars from various circuits like Ring of Honor up to the
WWF WWE (I still always get that wrong) will be on hand signing autographs. And if you’re feeling particlarly froggy, or if you happen to have a friend who wants to get into professional wrestling, or you have a really annoying friend (read: “I’ll be volunteering Bob for this”), ROH/WWE star turned trainer Truth Martini will be on hand from his House of Truth wrestling school running auditions, tryouts, and they’ll be doing seminars as well. Read up at http://www.xicwdetroit.com/ if you’re interested, pass it along, and stop by and say “hi” if you’re there.
If you’re looking for something to do after our event tonight, and you feel like belting out a few tunes for a chance to win $200, check out the East Side Party’s karaoke contest at Sugarbush Tavern.
We’ve got blogs.

A funny (or not, since I was freaking out a little bit) side effect here – turns out LinkedIn is expressly banning/prohibiting escorts and prostitutes from using their services now. And I know what you’re thinking “Ummm…what?!”, but no really, they were. Now, the funny part is that this was a news story all over the web yesterday, and that triggered a FLOOD of traffic at our little site here. Why? Well, a few years ago I wrote “The LinkedIn Prostitution Ring” over at http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/1011/the-linkedin-prostitution-ring/, and as people were searching for more information about these hookers on LinkedIn, our little blog entry kept popping up. And getting clicked on. And…wow.
Tens of thousands of page views later…my lord. We’ve never taken that much traffic. Not even on the days of our most heavily attended Pink Slip Party event.
So…yeah, thanks LinkedIn. That was entertaining.

And jobs? Oh my yes, there are jobs.
Hop into our group, hit the “jobs” tab in our group, and then click on “Job Discussions” in the left nav (I know, could they make it ANY more complicated…) to find a whole bunch of gigs, or just click here: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763
Okay, I think that’s about enough to keep you busy until we see each other tonight: http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/event/may-casual-networking-social-2013/
See you in a few hours over at Lucky Strike!
