‘Ello, Guv’nah! Pink Slip Party Updates, News, Jobs and More for 2/28/2013

So we met the Governor yesterday.

No, not the guy from The Walking Dead…although you can rest assured we made every joke we could think of in that vein.  No, you know, they “one tough nerd” guy – Snyder.

Kind of a last minute thing erupted, and so Bob and I drove out to Lansing to do another MEDC Shifting Gears event with our 10 Commandments of Networking schtick…

.facebook_-437169540It was nice meeting him and everything, but I do have to call him out on one key point: he walked into the room and there was a slide with Admiral Ackbar up on the screen, and he completely ignored it without making a single comment.

Kinda have to question his “nerd” status…

…but we’ll double back on that momentarily.

deathstarFirst thing’s first: our next event.

A Pink Slip Party.

Downtown.

St Andrews Hall

Wednesday (let me stress that – it’s a WEDNESDAY) March 13, 2013.

5pm start time.

The good folks over at Arrow Strategies (http://www.arrowstrategies.com) and Brightwing (http://www.gobrightwing.com) are even taking a few extra steps themselves to make sure that this event goes over the top by sponsoring an open bar to kick off the night right.  And it looks like iTalent (http://italent-llc.com/) is going to bring something to the table as well to make sure you remember the evening.

It’s shaping up to be one hell of a night.

So do yourself a favor. You can check out the details here on our site at https://itinthed.com/event/pink-slip-party-march-2013/, and you can read the story on CBS Local Detroit’s website about it here: http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2013/02/20/ITintheD-org-is-back-bigger-than-ever/

As always, keep yourself up to speed on all of our events out on our Events page at https://itinthed.com/our-events/

Now we can double back on Governor Snyder and his alleged “nerd” status.

It’s been a bit since we went and did a Shifting Gears event, and so Bob shot a note off to our contact there, who replied that she hadn’t bothered to ask us to come out to the one currently taking place since we’ve got so much going on and didn’t want to bother us but if we can possibly make time to get out there it’d be great because the Governor’s going to be stopping by and it would be…

Yeah, we stopped thinking and just kind of went into “Yes, we’re there, let’s clear calendars and do this” mode.

itsatrapSo off we went to Lansing yesterday, and as we in the middle of discussing Commandment II: Beware of False Prophets from our 10 Commandments of Networking (which, please tell me that you’ve read the 10 Commandments of Networking over at https://itinthed.com/2697/the-new-and-improved-10-commandments-of-networking/ before…if not, go read it immediately), and Governor Snyder walks in.

Now, Commandment II gets into events that are out there that, in our not so humble opinion…suck.  Or are looking to take advantage of you.  Or are just looking to make a quick buck (or twenty) off of you and have no interest in whether you get anything out of it or not…

In other words: the “IT’S A TRAP!” events we warn you about.

Nothing.  No reaction from him at all.

I’m calling his “nerd” status into question.  That’s right, I said it.

But it all seriousness…seems like a good guy.  Genuinely seemed to care and be concerned about the Shifting Gears participants and what they were getting out of the event.  In fact, laughably, we’re halfway convinced he thought Bob and I were running the thing because we happened to be up front speaking at the time and made it a point to ask us to keep him in the loop with status updates on how people were doing…

Sure…we’ll…get… right… on… that?

Anyway, so yes, we met and shook hands with the Governor, and somehow managed to not do anything that would cause his security guy to tackle us to the floor and beat us senseless.

I know, I was kind of surprised after the fact about that as well.

Now to see if we can get him to come down to the Pink Slip Party
