Deadlines, Support The Troops Networking Event Tonight and More for 12/13/2012

Good thing the Mayans weren’t dyslexic or yesterday’s 12/12/12 date might’ve been a real bummer, huh? (go ahead and groan…I deserve it)

Because we’ve got some deadlines (none of them involving Mayan calendars) to talk about, as well as our event tomorrow night.

You have through Sunday night to buy your tickets for Star Wars Night at the Palace.  Early bird registration for IT in the D shuts down at the end of the year.  Our year-end party / casual networking event / Support The Troops gathering is tonight.

Plus the usual scatterings of blog entries, job postings, discussions and more.

We’ve got a lot to get through, so let’s get started…

Our next event is tonight.  Thursday, December 13th.  Rochester Mills in Rochester Hills.  5:01pm start time, as always.  We’ll be taking over the center section again like we did for our event there back in February – that seemed to work well.  There’s going to be a 50/50 raffle going on to help raise money, so bring cash!

Details can be found here on our site – http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/december-2012/ – or over on Meetup at http://meetup.ITinTheD.org

dvhonoredNext up, Star Wars Night at the Palace of Auburn Hills, which is taking place on Friday, January 4th 2013.

DEADLINE: You have through Sunday night to buy your tickets.

If you have any interest in coming out to play with a pretty diverse group of people in a really cool party suite, now’s the time.  This isn’t a “ITinTheD.org” thing – this is just something that we thought would be a fun outing for people, so feel free to share the link out to friends and family and come have a great time.  $30 gets you in the party suite with a ticket, munchies, and non-alcoholic beverages…and, yep, two fully stocked cash bars if you’d like to have a few drinks.  Details: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/star-wars-night-at-the-palace/

31750304The end of the year will also mark the end of the early bird registration process for IT in the D.  Our call for speakers is now closed, and we’ll be making contact with the selected presenters over the next week and publishing out our schedule of events shortly after that.  To put it mildly, we’re bulging at the seams with outstanding content.  During a chat with the venue and a few others last week, our sanity was questioned for having such a low ticket price for this, as something like this in another city would cost hundreds of dollars.  Well, we’re not in other cities, and we’re not looking to get rich off of this, so we’re happy with where we’re at.  Get those tickets before they’re gone, folks: http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/it-in-the-d-tickets-and-sponsorships/  (and if you’re smart, you’ll pay attention to the Discount Double Check post)

Two other items also have deadlines attached to them:

Voting on the “Kill The Egg” contest for IT in the D will wrap up Friday.  We’ve got three great entries out there, and the voting is really close…so go vote: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4665/the-kill-the-egg-vote-for-it-in-the-d/

There are less than two weeks left to vote in the 10 Million Miles contest to benefit wounded veterans.  Read up on that here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4662/ride-2-recovery-support-wounded-military-vets/ and then go vote.

Okay, enough with the deadlines.  Let’s talk about some other stuff around here.

Last year, leading up to our year end event, we published some profiles of the troops we’d be working with…sort of a way to get names with faces with the cause that we were trumpeting.  We’re doing that again this year.  So, go check out:

Last year’s entries: http://www.ITinTheD.com/category/meet-the-troops/

2012 – Dave: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4672/meet-the-troops-2012-day-1/

2012 – Beth: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4679/meet-the-troops-2012-beth/

2012 – Mike: http://www.ITinTheD.com/4688/meet-the-troops-2012-mike/

…and then read those Frequently Asked Questions – http://www.ITinTheD.com/4556/dec-13-2012-faqs/ – and we’ll see you at the event tonight: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/december-2012/

Don’t Be That Guy – Mister Magoo out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/1906/dont-be-that-guy-mister-magoo/ is a whimsical little story about what happens when you burn bridges you probably shouldn’t have burned.

Don’t Be That Guy – The Walking Dead stems from the amazing discovery that people we ban from our events and zombies have a lot in common.  You can read that over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/3840/the-walking-dead/

Don’t Be That Guy – The Master Baiter just goes to show you that even recruiters find recruiters that they hate.  It’s at http://www.ITinTheD.com/4644/the-master-baiter/ for your reading enjoyment.

We had a great time at the WAB last Thursday…and amazingly, it wound up being more than just Bob, Jeff and I sitting around swapping stories and reminiscing.  You can catch a recap of that and some other random thoughts here – http://www.ITinTheD.com/4658/updates-12072012/ – if you’re so inclined.

And that brings us to our LinkedIn group.

And jobs…oh yes, jobs.  There are plenty listed over at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763, including some from several new recruiters who have just recently joined the group.  I suggest you hop in and check them out if you’re in the market or even just curious about what’s out there these days.  Here’s a sampling:
