Five Years Ago Today, We Got Serious

Those who have been around the group for a while know that we’ve been around since 2001.

However, it wasn’t until 2007 that we really started ramping things up and trying to actually make it something.

Fun fact: five years ago today, this email went out…

“The folks that introduced “agenda-free” networking to Detroit are back and are relauching DetroitNet with a bang at the Woodward Avenue Brewery in Ferndale Thursday December 6th at 5PM. For those who may not be familiar with the group, it is what it is, agenda-free networking. Show up, have a beer, meet some people. It’s as simple as that.

“We are re-launching this group for the same reason we started it, we just want to have networking meetings in Detroit with a relaxed atmosphere and no pressure to land the next big deal that day, plus it’s an excuse to have a beer with friends…and maybe meet a new business contact.”, states founder Bob Waltenspiel.

Dave Phillips adds, “DetroitNet was what I needed, and still need, that no other group offered or offers even today – peers with technical backgrounds and in technical positions that I could compare notes with, bounce ideas off of, and expand my network to include. I’ve tried most of the networking groups in the Metro Detroit area over the years, and DetroitNet is still the only one to meet those needs. No talking heads, no sleezy sales pitches…just solid networking…and let’s be realistic – in this market, it’s absolutely essential that you have a solid network in place for if and when you need that next opportunity.”

As always, all DetroitNet events are free to attend, they are not paid for by anyone, and your name will not be sold. Out of respect for our members, we ask that anyone involved in multi-level marketing businesses will not be permitted to attend, thank you for your cooperation.”

And now, five years later…it’s a company, and a 501c3 charitable purpose organization looking forward to helping people by funding scholarships and grants allowing them to get the training and certifications they need to improve their careers and find a better job. See you in December, folks: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/december-2012/
