Event Tomorrow Night, IT in the D Updates and More for 11/14/2012

This is actually going to happen.

We’re really going to do this.

IT in the D is real.

Some great speaker submissions have come in, and we’ll be finalizing our full program of events shortly.  Tickets have been sold, and our Early Bird registration phase is nearly complete already.  Sponsors are booking, and more are in the pipeline.  People are volunteering to help, for all phases of this endeavor.

And to think it started because a couple of friends wanted to have a beer and avoid That Guy at networking events…

Before I go waxing nostalgiac and getting all weepy or something, let’s dig into some details.

As always, we start with our next upcoming event.  Which in this case happens to be tomorrow night.

Thursday, November 15th. Royal Oak. BlackFinn. Back room. 5:01pm start time.

Details are available on our sitehttp://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or on LinkedIn at http://linkd.in/P0qmZl. Naturally, you can also find info out on our Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD) page, Meetup (http://meetup.ITinTheD.org) group, or any of our other “presence” pages or event listings around the web…but we always recommend sticking with our site as your primary resource, just to be 100% safe.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there.

Looking slightly further ahead, don’t forget about our December event, either.  We’re doing yet another Support The Troops initiative this year, and so our year end get together once more has a purpose.  Other than beer.

So that’s nice.  Make sure you keep in the loop on that one here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/december-2012/

Now…moving even further ahead.

Yes, January is booked for Como’s in Ferndale.  February is also set.  We’re finalizing the details on another “something different” event that will also be taking place in January that we think you’ll enjoy.

But that’s not the biggie.

Nope, the biggie is still IT in the D.

We’re going to be closing our Call for Speakers at the end of the month.  We’ve had so many great submissions so far, and, well, honestly we’re running out of room.  Maybe some day we’ll expand to a two day event and we’ll be able to put everyone in the mix that has so many cool things to share…but let’s get past this maiden voyage first before we get ahead of ourselves.

In the meantime, you can still submit if you’re interested in speaking/presenting: http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/it-in-the-d-call-for-volunteers/

People are volunteering to help out as well, both before, during and after the event.  If you’re interested, you can check this out: http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/it-in-the-d-call-for-volunteers/

Our Early Bird registration roster is nearly full, so if you’re thinking about it at all, now’s a good time to make sure you actually do before they’re gone: http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/it-in-the-d-tickets-and-sponsorships/

Sponsor information is available here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/wp-content/uploads/ITinTheD_sponsorkit_websiteversion.pdf …and yes, we actually have some on board with us now.  Which is phenomenal.  We’ll start tooting their collective horn and singing their praises to the world for believing in us in next to no time, you can be assured.

Once we have our programming tracks finalized and at least the skeleton of our program of events moderately fleshed out, we’ll be publishing those details as well.  Suffice it to say that we’re already assured to have something of interest to all facets of an organization.  Geeks will have geeky things to geek out about.  Budding entrepreneurs will be able to learn from those who have walked the path they’re thinking of starting down.  Recruiters will meet some great people they’ll want to hire.  The sales team from your company will have face time with some of the very people from whom they’ve been trying to get a call back for months.  Developers will learn things.  Security.  How to monetize an app you’ve written on the side.  How to think differently.

And you know us…it’s not going to be a day full of dry, boring, stale nonsense that will have you propping your eyes open with toothpicks before 11am hits.

No, that wouldn’t be us at all.

Just like we’re not your traditional networking group, this will be far from your traditional conference.  Sure, you’ll learn stuff.  Sure, you’ll meet great people.  Sure, some of you will probably still think we suck no matter what happens that day…but you’ll have a good time along the way.

Expect…actually, I hate the phrase “expect the unexpected”…because it’s just not logical…but, yeah, that.

So read up – http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/ – and plan to be there.

We just passed the three year anniversary of a remarkable occassion – Bob calling himself out in a Don’t Be That Guy.  You can read Don’t Be That Guy: Drunk Guy over here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/86/drunk-guy/

And then there’s our LinkedIn group over at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?home=&gid=91763

We’ve got some great discussions going on at the moment, on topics like:

– November is Hire a Veteran Month: http://lnkd.in/kpEiHT

– Groupon’s in trouble, but so are a lot of “daily deal” sites: http://lnkd.in/CqJD4D

– Detroit Hack City: http://lnkd.in/fQKWdm

…and jobs?  Plenty of jobs.  In the market or event considering looking around?  Have a look at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763.  Developers to architects, analysts to DBAs, there’s a little something for everyone in there.

Oh, and are you still missing the fun we have on Facebook?  Shame on you: http://www.facebook.com/ITintheD

That’s about it for this time.  See you tomorrow night – http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ – and don’t forget about IT in the D – http://www.ITinTheD.com/it-in-the-d/!

Regards,

Bob, Dave and Jeff
