Casual Networking Event Tomorrow Night, Cans, Charity, That Guys, News, Updates And Information Overload for 11/16/2011

Well, this has certainly been an interesting week.

We had our event in Flint last Wednesday night, another event taking place…wow, tomorrow night already at the BlackFinn in Royal Oak, we got the details nailed down for our December event, we had not one but two Don’t Be That Guy entries that went live, Goodtimes for Gleaners is dovetailing with our event tomorrow night at the BlackFinn to help a really worthy cause (see, it’s not always just about beer and snide remarks with us), the #OccupyDetroit discussion thread in the LinkedIn group has turned into the most-discussed topic we’ve ever had, and, of course, there are jobs posted in there as well.

Phew.  And that’s just scratching the surface.  So, read on…

As always, we start with our next upcoming event.

That’s tomorrow night, Thursday, November 17th in the back room of the BlackFinn in Royal Oak.  5:01pm start time as always, and also as always…no cover charges, no sales pitches, and no speeches.  Just good, solid networking with Information Technology Professionals here in the metro Detroit area.  We look forward to seeing you there.  For details on the event, you can hit our site at http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or LinkedIn at http://linkd.in/vk2duU.

And you really should check out the details, because starting at 8:00pm, our good buddy Rob Ray kicks off the Goodtimes for Gleaners event in the back room with us.  There are drink specials to be had starting at 8:00pm, all for a simple donation of three canned food items.  You know damned well and good you’ve got three canned food items sitting around that you can donate, or you can swing by and pick up three cans of green beans or something to help a family in a far worse situation than most of us are in.

So, again – full details here on our site at http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/.  Check it out and plan accordingly.  Bring out your cans and get really cheap drinks.  Sounds like a good deal to me.

Our next event will be in December.  Specifically, it’ll be our December Casual Networking Social, Year End Wrap Up and Holiday Gathering, also known as The Great ITintheD.com Anti-Politically Correct Happy Merry ChrismaKwanziKah Event taking place on Thursday, December 15th at Dragonmead Brewery.  Yep, Dragonmead Brewery again already – we had a lot of great feedback about the place, and they really loved having us there…so we’re heading back to wrap up the year.  Details as always are here on the site at http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or on LinkedIn at http://linkd.in/udhZAL.  So, before those calendars get too filled up, mark the 15th down as”booked” and we’ll see you there.

In the meantime, as mentioned up above, we’ve had two new Don’t Be That Guy entries go live.  The first, Don’t Be That Guy – Baron Von Shush, came late last week as a result of our event in Flint, and it’s live out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/2575/dont-be-that-guy-baron-von-shush/.  Our second came in from a guest contributor earlier this week, and Don’t Be That Guy – The Angry System Administrator is out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/2593/dont-be-that-guy-the-angry-system-administrator/ to remind you why internal, day to day networking can be just as important as anything that happens at a networking event, if not more so.

Which brings us to the part of the update that covers our LinkedIn Group, sitting over at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=91763.  We’ve got conversations going on about Occupy Detroit (and the whole “occupy” movement in general), getting recruiters to take you seriously when you’re looking to relocate here (or “back here”) to Michigan, being a responsible geek parent, and a whole host of other topics.  Check it out…conversation is a good thing.

And of course there have been jobs posted by the recruiters that are part of our group and events.  Here’s a peek at what’s out there at http://www.linkedin.com/groups?careerDiscussion=&gid=91763 currently:
