Karma, Analogies, News, Jobs and Updates for 10/26/2011 from ITintheD.org

Well…it couldn’t last forever.  The Tigers are done.  The Lions and Red Wings have both dropped two in a row.  The NBA…well, I guess I wouldn’t make any plans to hit the Palace any time soon for basketball unless the Harlem Globetrotters are coming to town.

So you might as well start looking forward to our upcoming events like the one in Flint on November 9th, or at the BlackFinn on November 17th where you can not only meet great people over a few drinks but can also help out a charity,  and you can always get a head start on Internation Prune Your Network Day.  You can also catch a recap of our event at Dragonmead Brewery (my new favorite bar, seriously) last week, read a little story about how karma really does work out sometimes, or perhaps you’d like to help by continuing to spread the word about something big we’ve got in the works.

If you’re feeling particularly brave (or bored) you could always hop into our LinkedIn Group to dive into what I’ve dubbed the #occupyITintheD discussion thread, or take a look at a few jobs that are posted.

The devil is in the details, so let’s go find him, shall we…

First up, events.  Our Flint event…well, cards on the table, it’s currently in jeopardy of being a bit of a cluster.  We’re trying to keep that from being the case, but it just might well be anyway.  We’re still going to plan on being there, and we hope you will too…and well, if nothing else, even if it’s a mess, the three of us are always entertaining.  Or at least we think we are.  And if Bob’s in one of his “I hate people” moods we’ll leave him at home and toss his wife in the car.  We’ve been asked to do something on that side of town a number of times, so even in the worst case scenario, we’ll do what we always do – have a few beers, find a few people, and make the most of it.

For details (I know, I’ve done an AWESOME job of building this up to the point where you can’t WAIT to be there, huh?) you can hit the event listing on our sitehttp://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or on LinkedInhttp://events.linkedin.com/ITintheD-org-Event-Flint-Kettering/pub/753808

Now, for an event that we do know what will be happening, you should keep our November 17th event in mind.  Royal Oak.  BlackFinn.  Back Room.  5:01pm start time.  Goodtimes for Gleaners showing up at 8:00.  Bring three non-perishable food items, and get $3 you-call-its from 8pm to 11pm.  That’s right, it’s gonna be a loooooooooong night kids, so pull on your grown up pants and come prepared.  We’ll figure out a way to store/handle/work with whatever food items you bring when you show up for our event at 5:01…maybe a box or something.  It’ll work out.

Details on our site http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or on LinkedIn http://events.linkedin.com/ITintheD-org-November-Casual/pub/772750

While you’re waiting on those, don’t forget International Prune Your Network Day out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/2498/international-prune-your-network-day/!  Also on LinkedIn at http://events.linkedin.com/International-Prune-Network-Day/pub/831978

And with that last note, I’m pretty certain that I’ve completely burned off whatever good karma that I had left in the bank after yesterday’s little escapade.  Karma can deliver to your door in very unexpected and interesting ways, and you can read about it here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/2520/my-name-is-earl/

We’ve had a few really great conversations with other IT groups out here in the metro Detroit area so far, but we’re still looking to have more.  Get the word out by sharing http://www.ITinTheD.com/2482/the-godfather/ far and wide, and let’s make something cool happen, shall we?

As mentioned earlier, get yourself into our LinkedIn group to check out some deep (and some not so deep) conversations going on, as well as jobs that are posted by recruiters that participate in our group and attend our events.

That’s all for this time, and see you at our upcoming events!

Regards,

Bob, Dave and Jeff
