Event Tomorrow Night at Dragonmead Brewery, News, Jobs and Updates for 10/19/2011

0

Okay East Siders – time to come out and play.

Dragonmead Brewery.  Warren.  Right off 696 at Groesbeck.  Awesome beer.  Great venue.

With all of the emails and snide remarks we get in person about hardly ever doing things on the East side of town, it’s time to show up and let us know that we should do hang out over there more often.  And from the “full disclosure” department…seeing as how I now live on that side of town, I’d really like it if we did.  So work with me here.

In case you missed it, we put a call out to all of the other IT related networking groups out there late last week, and for those of you who have already touched base – thanks a ton for having the faith to reach out, and I hope our conversations continue.  For those that haven’t, read this.

Oh, and sure, we’ve got jobs, discussions and all sorts of fun stuff going on in the LinkedIn group…so I guess let’s get started with some details…

So, let’s start with that event tomorrow night (that’s Thursday, October 20th) at the Dragonmead Brewery in Warren. You can find details on our site at http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/october-casual-networking-social-networking-for-it-professionals-in-metro-detroit/or out on LinkedIn at http://events.linkedin.com/October-Casual-Networking-Social/pub/756552 Check it out, give it a look, and we’ll see you there. There’s a video in the description on our site if you want to check it out.

For our November 17th event at the Blackfinn, we’ve added a very good reason for you to tell your significant other that you’re going to be late that night.  Really late.  Goodtimes for Gleaners will dovetail with our event in the back room, and we’re really looking forward to it.  Check out the details here http://www.ITinTheD.com/2489/update-on-november-17th-blackfinn-event-good-times-for-gleaners-added/

In our LinkedIn Group, we’ve got chats going on about the whole “Occupy” movement, naturally in particular about the “Occupy Detroit” folks.  There are also discussions taking place about whether I should pick up an iPad or a Droid Tablet (I went Droid, but it’s still a good chat taking place), notes and thoughts on several of our latest Blog entries, and a whole host of other fun topics.

From the “random stuff taking place” department, I mentioned earlier about reaching out to the other IT related groups here in the metro Detroit area.  If you haven’t read A Scene From The Godfather out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/2482/the-godfather/, please do so, and help spread the word far and wide.  There’s some really, really cool stuff starting to percolate…and we desperately want it to happen.  But you know us…it won’t if we don’t think it can be done right.

If you’re a .Net kinda person, you might want to check into the Ann Arbor Day of .Net taking place on Saturday, October 29th.  MI-GANG is involved, and as we’ve said before, they’re good folks…which is probably obvious, since we don’t usually pimp other group’s events…but these are some solid people doing some good stuff.  It’s only $10, with lunch included, and let’s be honest…it’s only getting colder.  Might as well be inside learning something and meeting some cool new folks, right?  Right.  Click over here http://aadodn2011.eventbrite.com/ to check it out and register.  I think I’m going to try and get there myself…if for no other reason than to make sure I’m properly armed when debating technology implementations…plus meeting new people.  And I hear that there are plenty of bars close by for the inevitable after party…

Speaking of meeting people and things I’ll be at, 1DevDay Detroit (http://1devdaydetroit.com/) is sold out.  So, I hope you took advantage of the discounted ticket offer that they were gracious enough to provide, and hope to see you there in a couple of weeks.  Also, use WordPress?  Want to know more about it?  WordCamp Detroit ( http://2011.detroit.wordcamp.org/ ) on November 12th and 13th is the place to be.

On that front, odds are good that in the very near future we’ll be taking one of the various domains that we’ve got laying around (I’m a geek…I collect URLs like some people collect Elvis plates…it happens…) and repurposing it from an alias coming here to a clean, solid place to find events here in the metro Detroit area that we think are worthwhile.  No spamfests, no BS groups that have no focus or purpose, no sales pitches…it’ll still be “us”, but we’ll open it up a bit to help build a place that the community can take advantage of and use to help themselves and others.

Jobs?  Yep, got jobs as well.  SysAdmins, C# developers, tech support, account management…here’s some of what’s live out there currently:
