Pink Slip Party Tomorrow Night! Jobs and Updates for 9/14/2011

Here we go.  Pink Slip Party events are probably the most nerve-wracking events for us to pull together, but they’re also the most rewarding and interesting, at the same time.  Really looking forward to getting this one in the rear view mirror, but also really wanting it to be successful and enjoyable at the same time.

They’re very schizophrenia-inducing, as you can probably tell.

In other news, “Hi there” to new visitors and readers from The Oakland Press Technology Blog section, we’ve got our future events after tomorrow night, a chance to go golfing with former Red Wings player Darren McCarty, jobs, discussions, and oh so much more.

So, here we go…

Obviously, let’s start with tomorrow night’s event.  This will be our last Pink Slip Party of 2011…at least as far as we know right now.  You know us…things can change at a moment’s notice, and we may suddenly find ourselves getting asked to throw something together and finding ourselves in a position where we can’t say “no”.

But for now…this is our last one of the year.  We’ve got plenty of other events on the books out at our Events page http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ coming up for the rest of the year, but this is our last Pink Slip Party.

And so, tomorrow (Thursday) night, let’s have some fun with it.  Yes, you may be coming because you’re desperately in need of a job.  Yes, you may be coming because you’re sick and tired of your client yelling at you to just find someone already to fill their open req before they take their business elsewhere.  Yes, you may just be coming out of curiosity because you’ve read or heard about us somewhere for the first time.  Still, remember – “casual, relaxed atmosphere”.  Take a deep breath, find Bob, Jeff or me and let us play traffic cop for you…that’s what we do.

Post Bar in Novi. 5:01pm start time. You can check out the details here on our site at http://www.ITinTheD.com/event/sept-detroit-networking-pink-slip-party/ or on LinkedIn at http://events.linkedin.com/ITintheD-org-PINK-SLIP-PARTY/pub/727777

I’ve been asked “What should I know before I show up?” a bunch of times over the past two weeks.  So, here’s what you should absolutely make sure you’re familiar with before you come to any of our events, but especially a Pink Slip Party event:

Pink Slip Party Frequently Asked Questions.  They live here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/faq

About Us.  We want you to know where we’re coming from, what we’re about, and how we think.  And we’re pretty honest about it too, so read the About Us page here: http://www.ITinTheD.com/about/

Not sure why you need to worry about networking?  The Recliner Principle at http://www.ITinTheD.com/22/the-recliner-principle/ is waiting for you.

New to networking events, or just not sure how or why we’re different than a lot of groups?  We suggest you read the Ten Commandments of Networking at http://www.ITinTheD.com/68/the-ten-commandments-of-networking/ followed by the Seven Deadly Sins of Networking over at http://www.ITinTheD.com/1309/dont-be-that-guy-the-seven-deadly-sins-of-networking/

Working on your resume?  Make sure you read Bad Resume Guy out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/101/bad-resume-guy/

Have a little more time to kill, and you really want to deep dive?  Awesome.  We’ve got categories of our entries setup for Networking 101 (http://www.ITinTheD.com/category/networking-basics/), for Job Seekers (http://www.ITinTheD.com/category/jobseek/) and for Recruiters (http://www.ITinTheD.com/category/for-recruiters/).  We also have some Random Thoughts (http://www.ITinTheD.com/category/random/) from time to time, not to mention Things We Hate (http://www.ITinTheD.com/category/hate/), as well as our ever popular Don’t Be That Guy (http://www.ITinTheD.com/category/dbtg/) series of entries that started it all.

So read.  And if Multi Level Marketing Guy (http://www.ITinTheD.com/935/multi-level-marketing-guy/) happens to be reading this…don’t say you weren’t warned.

And do please understand…it’s not that we take ourselves seriously.  We don’t.  Especially if you’re new to these parts, you really do need to “get” that…we’re the furthest thing from it.  However, we do take our time seriously…and we take the time of our friends, co-workers, former co-workers and group members seriously as well.  We’re committed to being the best networking group, with the best networking events, for Information Technology Professionals here in the metro Detroit area.  Always have been, always will be.  We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it a number of times in the future, I’m sure – this is the group that we always wanted to find, but couldn’t.  And so we created it.

Now that you know who and what we are, and you’re on deck to come tomorrow night, you might be one of those people looking for a new job.  Well, here’s some of the jobs that are out in our LinkedIn group from recruiters that participate in our group and our events:

Oh, and yes, our content is now being syndicated out to The Oakland Press blogs, in their Technology Section out at http://theoaklandpress.com/blogs/life/  Consider this another small step on our journey towards world domination.

Bet you thought I forgot about the golfing with McCarty thing, huh?  Nope.

So, the reason why our annual Guys Weekend At Oktoberfest in Frankenmuth To Be Drunken Fools isn’t taking place this year is because Bob is an idiot, and booked a fundraising golf outing for his daughter’s school right smack dab in the middle of what should have been yet another Greatest. Weekend. Ever.  Now, it’s for a good cause, and I’m all for helping out his daughter (mostly because she’s already smarter than he is, but that’s a topic for another day…), but still, I’m a little bitter about it.  As you can probably tell.  However, that won’t stop me from helping his daughter out by plugging the event here, and giving you the chance to golf with McCarty this weekend if you’re so inclined to do so:

Thank you!

See?  Look at me, being the bigger person and setting my bitterness aside to help a child.  Someone give me a trophy!

On a final note, looks like the winner of that Most Valuable Blogger thing gets announced on Friday.  I hope you all did your best to help us win…because if not, I may throw a hissy fit, just so we’re clear.

That’s all for this time…see you at our Pink Slip Party event tomorrow night and hopefully at the others throughout the rest of the year!
