Networking Event Tomorrow Night! Jobs, Don’t Be That Guy Double Trouble and More – Updates for July 20, 2011

Hot enough for ya?

Yes, I can actually hear you screaming “Dude, don’t be that guy” from here.  You can stop now.

It’s been a lot of fun this past week.  Scorching temperatures closing in on 100 degrees…and we’re supposed to hit that mark tomorrow.  So what better way to handle the heat than to come have some cool, frosty beverages with us at the BlackFinn in Royal Oak tomorrow night?

But before you do, you should check out the not one but two Don’t Be That Guy entries that have gone live this past week.  It was only going to be one, I swear…but then, as always, somebody jumped up and started wildly waving their arms so that we’d pay attention to them…and so the second was born out of necessity more than anything else.

And of course we’ve got jobs and a few other items to attend to, so let’s get started…

July’s networking event will take place tomorrow night, (that’s Thursday the 21st) and will be in the back room at the BlackFinn in Royal Oak. As always, you can find the details out on our Events page at http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or on LinkedIn at http://events.linkedin.com/ITintheD-org-July-Happy-Hour/pub/675394. It’s a 5:01 start time, so show up right after work, and we look forward to seeing you there!

And seriously, after the last few days, I’m going to need a drink or two.  Or five.  I promise to not turn into Drunk Guy.

Which leads me into the Don’t Be That Guy entries.  Late last week, Don’t Be That Guy – Jehovah’s Witness Guy went live out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/2052/dont-be-that-guy-the-jehovahs-witness/.  Someone got all up in arms and sent me a nastygram comparing it to The Holocaust.  Yes, you’re reading that right – our silly little Don’t Be That Guy entry to The Holocaust (bet you’re gonna go read it if you haven’t already done so, huh?)…which, needless to say, went over like an MLM pitch at one of our events.

After many drafts (and draughts), all discarded for excessive use of the f-bomb and various other colorful phrases that called into question various personality traits of the email sender…it finally sank in why they were so upset.  And so, Don’t Be That Guy – The Cracker Barrel Conundrum is now live out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/2094/dont-be-that-guy-the-cracker-barrel-conundrum/.  Enjoy.

While you’re making plans to get yourself to our event tomorrow night, if you’re looking for something tonight and happen to be really involved with .Net (or want to be), then you should probably check out the MI-GANG .Net developers group meeting taking place tonight.  They’re good folks…you may consider them on the “Friends of the Program” list for ITintheD.com…and they do good stuff.

I’m going to give the “spotlight” thing a break this week…honestly, with the banging my head against the wall nonsense, I simply haven’t had the time to take a look at the folks that raised their hands and asked to be included.  I’m sorry, my apologies, I suck, I freely admit it.

However, that just means that I skip to the jobs to be had in our LinkedIn group, and a number of recruiters (both old and new…we’ve heard from quite a few new folks lately) to be met at tomorrow night’s event at the BlackFinn.  So, reminder – hanging out in the LinkedIn group is nice, but you’re really not going to get the most out of participating with us unless and until you make it to events to make those connections in person.

So here’s a sample of what’s out there at the moment:
