Events, Jobs, That Guy and an Experiment – Updates for June 22, 2011

Well, our event at the Red Ox Tavern in Utica is now in the rear-view mirror, and it’s time to start looking ahead to upcoming events.  And as weird as it may sound, even though we’re sitting here at only the halfway point of the year, we’re surprisingly pretty well organized for the balance of 2011.

So this time around we’ll check in on our July and August events, hit you with a few discussions taking place in our LinkedIn group as well as some jobs floating around in there, link out to a new Don’t Be That Guy that’s gone live, and try a little experiment…

July’s event will take place on Thursday the 21st, and will be back at the familiar stomping grounds of the back room at the BlackFinn in Royal Oak.  As always, you can find the particulars out on our Events page at http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or on LinkedIn at http://events.linkedin.com/ITintheD-org-July-Happy-Hour/pub/675394.

August 18th is the date for our first event out at Penny Black in Rochester.  As with July’s event, you can find the details on our Events page http://www.ITinTheD.com/meet/ or out on LinkedIn at http://events.linkedin.com/ITintheD-org-August-Happy-Hour/pub/707335

Looking forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming events, and we’re kind of geeked about trying out a new venue.  Always an interesting chain of events, for sure.

Whether you’re coming to your first event or you’ve been at ’em all, you might want to give Don’t Be That Guy: Mister Magoo a read out at http://www.ITinTheD.com/1906/dont-be-that-guy-mister-magoo/ to make sure you avoid the perils of shortsighted networking.

Speaking of “been at them all”…that sort of leads into our little experiment.  We thought it might be interesting to throw a regular attendee at our events into the spotlight so to speak, and see if we can’t help them out a bit.  Might be a job seeker, might be a recruiter, might just be someone looking to expand their network a bit with the right people…honestly, we just want to help the people that are regular participants in our group as much as we can, with whatever they need.

So for this time around, recruiters out there – allow us to introduce you to Ray Braun (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/ray-braun/10/23b/149And since he doesn’t know we’re doing this…”Hi Ray!”

Here’s a snapshot of Ray’s high level summary:

Now, you recruiters out there…I know damned well and good that a lot of you are looking for someone like that.  So go hit him on LinkedIn at http://www.linkedin.com/pub/ray-braun/10/23b/149, touch base, and get the man hired.

Next time maybe we’ll hit one of the recruiters.  Let’s see how this goes.

We’ve got some decent conversations going on in our LinkedIn group – everything from chats about why I and a few others are praying that “smell-o-vision” never happens, Dropbox’s little password “oopsy”, if it’s really reasonable to get hit with a felony charge if you read your spouse’s email, and more.  Hop in and chime in.

On the jobs front, plenty sitting out there in the LinkedIn group.  Remember, you go into our group, then to the Jobs tab in the group, then to the “career discussions” link either at the bottom of the page or in the left-hand navigation once you’re in the group’s jobs tab to find these (and more) positions.
