Detroit Fanfare, Zombies, Apprend, Networking Events and More for 11/17/2014

Tonight’s live broadcast should be a pretty fun one.

On top of that, we’ve got our in-person casual networking event for metro Detroit information technology professionals this Thursday that you’ll want to be at.

So without further delay, let’s get to some details…

5pm start time, as always.

If you didn’t make it to our event there earlier this year, you definitely missed out.  Dark wood. Great atmosphere. Extensive selection of Michigan made beers.  A hellacious martini selection.  Lots of great scotch.  Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Details can be found here on the site – https://itinthed.com/meet/, on our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/ITinTheD, or in our Meetup group – http://www.meetup.com/ITintheD/

Our live broadcast tonight has two really great guests joining us.

11172014We’ve got Dennis L Barger Jr coming in to talk about Detroit Fanfare, a convention taking place in February of 2015 that you should mark on your calendars now.  From their site: “Detroit Fanfare: We are the Comic Book Convention that puts comic books first and foremost. We are the resurrection of the original Detroit Triple Fan Fair, which was the country’s first comic book convention held in Downtown Detroit in 1965 at the Book Cadillac Hotel. Shel Dorf, one of the first promoters of the DTFF would later go on to form the San Diego Comic Con. Walking away from Comic Con, because it had become more focused on media then comics, he set the ground work for us to re-establish our roots and put on Detroit Fanfare.”

We’re also being joined by Alan Languirand, who has launched Apprend.  Apprend is a group for people passionate about software and technology education. You should join Apprend if you want to learn about technology as a student, want to teach others about tech in a classroom / workshop environment, or are a tech professional that wants to connect with other in a more casual and social setting.  We help people connect by organizing social events, workshops, and classes so they can make connection and learn new skills.

10629555_615397541904268_4592583840777495516_nI’m sure we’ll also be talking with Dennis about Deadworld, which are zombie-themed sodas and energy drinks that we checked out the premiere of.  No really, that happened.

We’ll also have our usual discussions about topics that have caught our eye over the past week and fun things we’ve found from around the area.

Not sure how to listen live?  We’ve got instructions for you over here: https://itinthed.com/listen/how-to-listen/.  Missed any of our previous episodes?  We’ve got a page for that, too: https://itinthed.com/listen/it-in-the-d-show-archives/
