IT In The D – Episode 42: Uber, Digerati Girls, Wrestling, Events, Hell Yeah Detroit and More

1

Wow.

Just…”wow”.

What a great episode.

Phenomenal conversations with guests from Uber, Digerati Girls, Daily Detroit and the producer of Wrestling’s Battles, Bouts and Brawls, covering an entire host of topics that left little untouched…

ep42We didn’t even get around to opening up with any ranting this time around since the studio was packed to capacity with guests, and so with a quick mention of our event this coming Thursday night at Stray Cat Lounge and then Motor City Comic Con this weekend…we dove right on in with our guests.

First up was Mike White, GM for Uber in Michigan, and we had just a great chat about a whole host of topics.  The differences between Uber and UberX.  Some of the stories that have been circling around about how cities are reacting to Uber both here in the US and internationally.  Surge pricing.  Uber driver’s rating / ranking their customers.

A really great, open, candid conversation…exactly what we were hoping it would be.  Oh, and they’re also running a $30 off promo code, ITintheD, that’ll get you $30 off your first Uber ride.  So check that out for sure.

Next up, we talked women and girls in technology and digital marketing with Monica White from Digerati Girls, an organization that runs classes for girls between 4th and 12th grades in an effort to get them interested in and excited about technology.  She’s also involved with probably the best-sounding hackathon event that we’ve heard about to date coming up in September, where companies with budgets are looking for developers with skills and time to take on work.  Should be very cool, and we’ll definitely have her back in to chat more about it as the event gets closer.

Then we hopped over to Mark Nowotarski to talk about his documentary “Battles, Bouts and Brawls”, which is a historical look at professional wrestling in metro Detroit from the 1950s through today.  There’s a premiere for the film coming up on Thursday, May 29th, and it sounds like it’s going to be an absolute blast with a private dinner, autograph / meet & greet opportunities, and plenty of names from yesterday, today and tomorrow in the mix.

Last, but certainly not least, we dove in with Rusty from Daily Detroit to hear about his upcoming adventure at the Mackinac Island policy conference later this month, the Movement festival, more on the bloggers vs journalists debate, and all sorts of other cool things they’ve got going on.

Seriously…just a packed, PACKED show.  Lots of great guests and a ton of solid information in here.  Listen:
