ITintheD.org Updates and Jobs for November 11, 2010

Greetings once again from ITintheD.org!

We’re just a week away from our next casual networking event at the BlackFinn in Royal Oak.  As always, we’ll be in the back room, and things will start up at 5pm.  As per usual, you won’t have to deal with any speakers, people pushing products or trying to sell you something, or any fees to get in.  Nope, just good, solid networking with some of the best IT folks in and around the metro Detroit area.

For more details, you can check out…

The event listing on our site: http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/event/november-social-happy-hour-networking-for-the-metro-detroit-it-industry/

…and that’ll show you time, the address and other information that you may need to get you there…and we do look forward to seeing you!  If you’re unsure where to start, feel free to find Bob, Dave or Jeff, and we’ll be more than happy to perform our usual “traffic cop” duties to make sure that you get pointed in the right direction.

To get serious for just a moment (and yes, believe it or not, that actually is possible), we realize that we spend a lot of time sitting back and taking shots at “That Guy”…in whatever form That Guy may take.  However, it’s good to have a little perspective from time to time, and so it’s important to take a moment to realize that in the grand scheme of things…this stuff is all really pretty minor.  Yeah, it’s annoying when some MLM guy (http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/935/multi-level-marketing-guy/) shows up at one of our events.  It ticks us off when we see someone taking advantage of the unemployed (http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/1011/the-linkedin-prostitution-ring/) or the uninformed (http://www.ITintheD.org/index.php/105/social-networking-class-guy/)…

…but, again, in the grand scheme of things…none of that is even remotely close to a critical, life or death issue.

You know who deals (or dealt) with critical, life or death issues all of the time?  Veterans.

Today is Veteran’s Day.  Today is a good day to sit back and realize that without the people who have been willing to write a blank check to this country…redeemable for anything up to and including their very lives…for the past couple hundred years, then we wouldn’t have the time to let these petty trivialities bother us.

We live in a country, and in a time, where we have the freedom and the opportunity to sit back and take virtual potshots at people who annoy us because of those veterans who have served, and given their lives in service, to make sure that we can.  While I’m sure that “Networking Detroit…One Beer At A Time” probably wasn’t what was in mind when the branches of our military service were established, we’re extremely grateful for them and all that they do around the world to protect our lives and the ability to get together for a few drinks once a month and build some new relationships, nurture some old ones, and try to help make things here in the metro Detroit area a little better.

So, from us at ITintheD.org to all of the veterans who may be reading this, even to those who don’t, and especially to those who can’t because their check got called due…thank you.  Thank you for serving this country and for keeping us safe.  Words alone cannot possibly express our gratitude enough.

With all of that in mind…we do still have our normal weekly set of jobs for you:
