ITintheD.org Updates and Jobs for 11/24/2010

Hey there folks!  Going to try shifting these updates to Wednesdays.  Thanks to everyone who emailed me Friday morning to ask if we were really still at the Blackfinn at 2:30 in the morning on Friday when the email finally went out from LinkedIn’s servers…and the answer is “no” 🙂  Sadly, even though the message was queued up through LinkedIn at about 10am, their mail servers decided not to deliver it until shortly after 2:30 the next morning.  So, for those of you that missed the event as a result (and I got quite a few “Ack! I forgot!” emails…) …sorry about that.  We’ll try shifting these to Wednesdays and see how that works out.

For those of you that did make it last week – thanks, and great seeing you!  There were so many new faces, which is always a great thing.  People that are just still hearing about us for the first time, or finally deciding to take a chance on seeing if a group with “beer” in their tagline can actually help…welcome to you all!

Now, as far as an event in December goes…

…well, we’re still nailing that down as far as the specifics on timing and location.  As mentioned in earlier updates, we’re going to start moving around a bit and changing up locations that we go to, and this seemed like a good time to get started with a test run.  So, keep an eye on next week’s updates, as things should be finalized by then.

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, which means two things:

  1. Tonight is “amateur night” in the bars across the state and nation.  If you’re going out, whether to meet up with friends or to get on the road to go meet family…please, be safe.
  2. Turkey coma!  So, hopefully you’ll read this today, since we all know we’ll be semi-conscious and likely watching the Lions get destroyed tomorrow.

As our own note of “thanks” – thank you yet again to everyone that participates in our group.  It’s still completely mind-blowing that we’re now up over 2,000 members in our LinkedIn group, all in and around the metro Detroit IT industry.  Particularly when I still vividly remember the first “Let’s bring ITintheD.com back” get together in late 2007…which had five people at it.  And yes, that includes the three of us in that count.

So…thank you.  Thank you to all of the recruiters that show up at our events, post jobs in our LinkedIn group, have a little faith in us, and have helped more than 120 people find new jobs this year through the group and our events.  Thank you to the job seekers who put a lot of faith in our events by showing up and thinking it may help them.  Thank you to the folks that are just looking to build their network, and haven’t gotten scared off by hundreds of people at a Pink Slip Party event looking to hire or be hired.

Our thanks go out to you all, because it’s you that have made ITintheD.com what it is today.
