Okay Taliban…Now It’s Personal (More Updates From December’s Event)

So we gave you the quick update from Mike over in Afghanistan last week that everything from the December event had arrived.

Well one of the things that was in there was a ITinTheD.org t-shirt since we had a batch specifically made up to include in the packages being sent.  Why? Because we thought it would be really damned cool to have pictures of guys over there in a t-shirt with our logo on them, that’s why.

Seems like the Taliban doesn’t want us to get our propaganda photo op, though.  They blew the damned thing up…

However, first, I want to share the note and photo that did come in from Mike:

Dear Senior Chief Dotson and the rest of the good people at ITintheD.com:

On behalf of ANCOP Advisor Team (63231) located in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, I would like to extend a huge THANK YOU for your very generous care package.  We received it about two weeks ago before heading out into the field for an extended mission.

The iPods and iTunes gift cards were very popular for our guys, and the chocolate candies were absolutely addicting!  Also, the many cases of gum were especially appreciated as we are currently experiencing many dust storms and the gum was a great treat.

Again, thank you very much for your kindness and generosity.  We truly appreciate it.

Very respectfully,

LTJG Mike Major, SPHR, USN ANCOP Advisor Team – Ghazni

You are seriously more than welcome, Mike…and everyone else.  We’re thrilled to have even been able to do something like this for our troops overseas, who put their lives on the line so that we have the ability to sit back and be wisecracking smartasses whose biggest problem is when the tap runs dry and we have to wait for a keg swap.

Most of you know that Russ Dotson helped us put all of this together, but many of you may not know what an anal-retentive control freak perfectionist he can be.

Poor Mike got hounded about the timing of things getting there, letting us know when it arrived, and then Russ continued to nag him about getting us our propaganda photo.

Well…there’s a really good answer to Russ’ question of “What’s it going to take to get you in that t-shirt?!” that came back as a reply:

“You can try sending me another one as the first one met an untimely demise at the hands of the IED.  It was destroyed.”

Are you kidding me?

The Taliban blew up our god damned t-shirt.

Jerks.

Luckily, I happen to have a box of them still sitting around waiting for the next time we do something like this again…which we’re already planning.  Now if I can just get an answer to my emails and phone calls to the Pentagon over the weekend as to how one goes about getting a logo put on a missile attached to a drone…
